In the wake of the recent earthquake in Myanmar, we are deeply moved by the outpouring of support from ILO colleagues around the world. Through the ILO Yangon Staff Union Bank Account in Thailand, we’ve received THB 288,541.51 (USD 8,853.68)—thanks to generous donations from individuals and Staff Unions across country offices.
These funds are now being directed toward a Cash for Work programme launched by the ILO Yangon Office in the Inle Lake region of Southern Shan State. This area was among the most affected by the earthquake, and many rural families are in urgent need of shelter repair and reconstruction.
The programme provides local employment opportunities while supporting the rebuilding of homes—focusing on those most in need: elderly persons, people with disabilities, and women-headed households with limited income. The onset of monsoon rains has made timely assistance even more vital.
The initial pilot phase targets 17 vulnerable households in three remote villages. Plans are underway to scale the initiative to reach more affected communities.

In a separate effort, ILO Yangon staff quickly mobilized over USD 1,000 for direct emergency support to 14 households in the Mandalay Region, the area closest to the earthquake’s epicentre. These households are family members and relatives of our staff.
We’ve also included an Earthquake Emergency Assessment Report to provide further insight into the needs and response.
We are sincerely grateful to everyone who made this possible.
Your solidarity has brought hope to communities in crisis. Thank you for standing with the people of Myanmar.
